The Priestly (P) source is one of the four distinct hypothetical sources responsible for the Pentateuch and may have influenced the prophet, Ezekiel. Most likely, the Priestly source was collected and written during the post-exilic period (post 586 BCE) and perhaps into the early Second Temple period (516 BCE – 70 CE). The Priestly source is primarily invested in presenting a more universal, orderly, and structured view of the world. It is obsessed with presenting the roles of the priestly class especially of the Aaronide class and providing minute details of the holiness of God, purity regulations, dietary restrictions, rituals, tabernacle, covenants, and genealogies.
